Diego Salazar regards each frame as an individual work of art; proceeding in this manner assures that the frame retains more of its original integrity and value. The best course of action when a gilded frame has been over-painted is not always to regild. Often the paint can be carefully removed so that the original finish is once again exposed. It is also possible to restore the damaged surface on one section of a frame using new gilding that is sensitively patinated to match the adjacent original surface - this is often a much better alternative to stripping and re-gilding the entire surface of the frame.
In addition to antique frame restoration, we can arrange for the conservation and restoration of your artworks. We have ongoing relationships with a number of painting conservation experts including the renowned Moro Studios, located in our building.
